The Itex-Rotary Trust are delighted to confirm the 22nd Itex Around the Island Walk will take place on Saturday 23 June and that registration is now open.

Those participating in the 48.1 mile walk, rooted deeply in Jersey heritage, have been challenged by the organisers to raise as much money as they can to celebrate their 22nd year. The 2011 Around the Island Walk raised over £115,041.00 bringing the total amount given to 122 local charities over the past 21 years to a staggering £1,674,276.
Paul Owen, Chairman of the Itex-Rotary Trust said, “The Around the Island Walk is a major community event and provides hundreds of locals and visitors from aboard an opportunity to combine achieving personal goals with raising money for deserving causes in Jersey.”
Local charities being supported in 2012 are 10th Jersey (St Brelade) Scout Group, Jersey Cheshire Home and Jersey Trees for Life. In addition another 12 local organisations will benefit from the donations raised by the walkers and their numerous supporters.
The Jersey Cheshire hope to use the money raised from this years walk towards their remodeling programme in particular they are proposing to replace and modernize their in house Laundry to meet modern infection prevention requirements and to provide all those who use the home with a high standard of cleanliness and maintenance of their clothing.
In addition to organising the full Walk of 48.1 miles, the Itex-Rotary Trust were delighted to announce a new dimension to the Around the Island Walk in 2007 which gave walkers an opportunity to join the Lieutenant Governor of Jersey on a personal challenge to walk around the Island in consecutive stages over four years. Each stage of the LG Challenge is walked in parallel with those walkers attempting the full distance in one go. As this Walk has proved so popular over the last four years we decided in 2011 to continue with the four year challenge and the first section was completed again last year. So if you would like to be part of the fun but not do the whole walk why not join us in 2012 for the second section of the Walk from St Catherine’s Checkpoint to Les Fontaines Checkpoint which is a distance of 10.9 miles!
Taking part in our LG Challenge will give you the chance to become part of one Jersey’s great fun days without having to commit to the whole 48 miles in one go. We are delighted to announce that His Excellency General Sir John McColl will take part this year and continue the strong tradition started by his predecessor Lt Gen. Sir Andrew Ridgway in supporting the LG Challenge.
We would appeal for as many local sponsors as possible to help us make this a Walk to remember. Please contact 01534 633655 if you would like to help.
