04/06/2009 Kleinwort Benson puts best foot forward for charity

The choice of charities to benefit from this year’s Itex Walk has given one team added motivation to put their best foot forward on 20 June.

Eight members of staff from Kleinwort Benson have entered this year’s walk and, led by Managing Director Angus Taylor, will be particularly keen to raise funds for the Jersey Friends of the Anthony Nolan Trust, one of the three charities selected as the main beneficiaries of the walk along with Jersey Mencap and Holidays for Heroes Jersey.

As its partnership charity Kleinwort Benson has built a close relationship with the Anthony Nolan Trust and, through various joint initiatives and events over the last decade, has helped the charity to raise more than £300,000.

Led from the front by Mr Taylor, who regularly rallies the troops to encourage training sessions and is on hand to offer walking tips and advice, the team is putting extra effort into fund raising for the 48.1 mile walk.

“I am doing between 10 and 15 hours walking a weekend,” said Mr Taylor.

“The longest walk I have managed so far is 32 miles, which was tough but I have to say that it helps greatly that my wife is doing the Itex Walk with me as well. Being part of a group of work colleagues who are all working towards the same goal is also a great motivator.

“The event raises much needed funs for local charities like Jersey Mencap and Holidays for Heroes Jersey, but I think as we are so closely associated with the Anthony Nolan Trust, and know first hand the great work that they and the Jersey Friends do, it has really given Team KB an extra boost.”

Numbers for the 2009 Itex Walk are 20% up on last year’s entries, so organisers are really hoping that islanders will support their friends, family or colleagues in their Itex Walk efforts.

KB put best foot forward

Paul Marett, Managing Director of Itex, has walked or helped to organise the event each year since it began back in 1990.

“The Itex Walk is a great challenge, whether taking part as an individual or a group, and can provide a fantastic team-building exercise for companies such as Kleinwort Benson. With support and commitment like that shown by Team KB we hope to beat our £100,000 target for the deserving charities this year.”
